The Weekend

Hi there! I hope you had a really special weekend. I did, we started the weekend off with by attending the UF versus Georgia baseball game Friday evening. Great game, between the #1 and #2 SEC East baseball teams!

Saturday was rest and relaxation with some Real Estate business thrown in for good measure.

Sunday was filled with the blessings of family and good friends for a Mother’s Day brunch and pool time.

Mother’s Day

But for me, Mother’s Day has a very special connection to my past. Why? Because my family comes from the small mountain town of Grafton in northeastern West Virginia. It is the birthplace of the first Mother’s Day back in 1908.

And so as children, we learned the story of how Anna Marie Jarvis was seeking a way to honor the memory of her mother who had died. She asked her church to honor all mothers as a tribute to the anniversary of her mother’s death.  In 1908 that service became the first Mother’s Day.  And in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson approved a resolution which declared the second Sunday in May as the official Mother’s Day, nationwide.

It was one of the springtime celebrations in our community. We gifted our mothers with a carnation corsage to wear on Sunday and carnations were placed on the graves of deceased mothers on Mother’s Day.

The Outfit

I saw this dress on a couple of Instagram posts over the past couple of weeks. Immediately,  I knew it was a perfect dress for the coming Florida summer heat.  Since I am between sizes I wanted to run to the mall and try it on before purchasing.

What a fun afternoon! I think that there was maybe six of these dresses hanging together in an out of the way location against the wall. I took mine into the dressing room.

Perfect fit and so lightweight and cool! While at the register the lady in front of me questioned, “Where did you find that dress”? Off she went and back with her dress. Then the gal behind me took a quick look. She too decided it was a must-have. We all had a good laugh about our good taste and hoped that we all didn’t end up at the same function.
